Biografy

Eurico Borges was born in Chaves (Portugal) in 1950, from a humble family with no links in the Arts field. Spent a happy childhood between the city and the, at the time, primitive town of his mother’s family, experience that helps him to acquire a love relation between himself, people and with nature as well.

When he becomes 13, painting appears as something natural, domestic and unavoidable. Been an orphan since he was 11, it will brand the rest of his life. A short stint in a Seminary, the daily work from his early youth combined with his studies, plus living under a dictatorship government, makes him move to France as student and labourer, and as witness of May of 68, this becomes an special frame for his conscience, both political and artistic.

At 22, after years of playing with colours and brushes, undertakes his first individual exhibition. Lives in Portugal, but in 1975 returns to his gypsy life. First Spain, later Netherlands and Germany but, in the middle eighties, returns to his homeland. In the meantime exhibitions takes place as well as living-learning experiences with famous European artists.

Again a few years of stay in Portugal, once more takes his working cabinet to Spain for five years, later and finally lives during four years in Cuba.

From his early youth, his painter’s life was supplemented with various activities. Was a teacher, reporter, performed in stage, films and even formed a company of contemporary dance. Anchored a TV program, was cultural conductor, manager at radio stations. In Madrid, with 6 more painters formed the “Display Group”, illustrate books, was awarded with prizes, paid homage and brought forth more than a hundred individual exhibitions plus countless collective ones, in various countries of both continents.

In the old fashion way, he is a marginal artist, a “sharp-shooter” that has never bowed to lesser values. It moves him, that after more than 35 years painting, art critics still see him as a romantic painter.
